The Living Room Hosted by Nami Metro Suburban Set to Open in Oak Park

OAK PARK, Ill. – Join us as we celebrate and support mental wellness in the community at the opening of a new Living Room in Oak Park hosted by NAMI Metro Suburban and made possible through funding from the Village of Oak Park, Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park, Rush Oak Park Hospital, Oak Park River Forest Community Foundation, Oak Park Township, and River Forest Township.

WHAT:
The event will include a brief overview of the Living Room Program, remarks from community partners, a ribbon cutting, light refreshments and tours of the new space.

About The Living Room:
The Living Room is a place to come if you are experiencing stress in your life or an increase in mental health symptoms. Anyone who is 18 and over who is feeling scared, anxious, angry, sad, or just needs someone to talk to. You can walk-in or call ahead. It’s a calm, home-like space where adults experiencing distress can connect with a trained peer recovery support specialist with lived experience for support, de-escalation, and tools to maintain mental health recovery.

The Oak Park Living Room will be open daily from 12–8 p.m. Services provided are free of charge and open to all.

In the United States, recent data shows over 23% of U.S. adults (over 57 million people) experienced a mental illness in recent years, while over one in five U.S. adults experienced a mental illness in 2025. Now more than ever, mental illness shows no signs in slowing down and its impact can affect families, businesses and communities.

At NAMI Metro Suburban our mission is to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities affected by mental illness in the western suburbs of Cook County. As one of over 900 NAMI affiliates nationwide, we are committed to making a positive impact on mental health across the region.
