Each day, someone in our community takes their first brave step toward healing.
Sometimes that step looks like a phone call to one of our 24/7 Living Rooms for crisis services. Other times, it’s walking into a support group for the very first time, hoping to finally feel less alone.
And when they do, NAMI Metro Suburban (NAMI MS) is there to meet them with compassion, understanding, and hope. We provide mental health education, advocacy, and direct support to over 20,000 of our West Suburban Cook County community members every year.

What You Make Possible
NAMI Metro Suburban, along with your help, is dedicated to helping individuals in our community who need it most. Two of those people are Alex and his mom, Maria:
Alex is a fifteen-year-old popular athlete with many friends, but he began facing serious mental health challenges during his sophomore year, leaving both him and his mother unsure what to do. Everything changed when NAMI MS’s Ending the Silence presentation came to his health class. Hearing a NAMI peer share his own journey with diagnosis and treatment inspired Alex to reach out to his school counselor, who connected him to resources, including NAMI’s teen mental health space, The Loft at Eight Corners. There, he found community and understanding, while his mom, Maria, gained support through NAMI’s Family Support Group. “There is so much more hope for us as a family,” she said. Today, Alex continues therapy, Maria attends Family Support Group, and together, they are moving forward with hope.
Stories like Alex’s and Maria’s only happen because people in our community care enough to act. This Season of Giving, we invite you to join us and be the reason more people find hope in recovery.
