Katelyn Potempa joined NAMI Metro Suburban in August 2020 as The Living Room Manager. Katelyn oversees our 3 Living Rooms in LaGrange, Broadview, and Summit. She also supervises and manages the Recovery Support Specialist team.
Katelyn is also a community contact for local hospital partnerships, collaborating to enhance NAMI presence in programming and creating a bridge to community-based services for patients post discharge.
Katelyn has a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Katelyn’s career in Psychology includes working in an Emergency room as a crisis worker, an outpatient and SASS therapist for both adults and children, and as the Living Room clinician in LaGrange back in 2016!
Katelyn took a break from her career in Psychology to take care of her own mental health. During that time Katelyn worked in Human Resources in various of industries. Katelyn has re-joined NAMI in 2020 and will soon be a Certified Recovery Support Specialist. Her passion for mental health has deepened when she herself needed to take care of her own. She advocates for her team and the community knowing it is truly ok to not be ok, we will get through it together.
